Having consulted to small and medium sized businesses for the past several years, I have come to realize that most small business owners are very proficient in the technical aspects of their businesses, but lack the training and coaching in the business side of their businesses. Additionally, most don't have the resources or access to management consulting firms that specialize in small business.

As an advocate for small businesses, I think that posting articles on the internet is an ideal means of sharing my experience and "expertise" with small business owners to help them better understand and manage their companies.

My article or "hubs" will focus on a variety of basic business management topics.  From time to time, I will also publish Hubs on topics that interest me not related to small business operations.

A little bit about me. I have been working since I was 14, and believe that the experience I gained from each of these experiences has allowed to develop  a unique prospective on business and life in general. I have had the good fortune to have worked in a wide range of industries as an employee and consultant and to have worked in organizations ranging from Fortune 100 or comparable to small "mom and pop" establishments.

Specifically, I enjoyed 19 years as an operations manager in the property/ casualty insurance industry managing high volume backroom processing operations. 

As a consultant I have worked with clients in the areas of producitivity enhancement, process improvement, cost recovery, business and strategic planning, organizational design, human resource management, financial analysis, job pricing and costing and cash management.

I don't claim to be an industry or subject matter expert, but my exposure and involvement with various size and type of organizations has lead me to understand that the fundmentals of business apply regardless of size or type of business. Understanding and applying these fundamentals, eliminates some of the stress and resolves many of the issues confronted by small business owners.
